Huge Investment! BYD Makes Another Major Move in Lithium Battery Recycling!

Recently, a new company named Xixian New District BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. has been officially established, as disclosed by the Qichacha app. The company's legal representative is He Long, with a registered capital of 10 million RMB. Based on its business scope, the company will be involved in multiple areas, including battery manufacturing and sales, electronic special materials manufacturing, as well as the recycling and second-life utilization of used power batteries for new energy vehicles.

According to Qichacha’s shareholder penetration data, Xixian New District BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. is fully owned by Changsha BYD Auto Co., Ltd. This connection indicates that BYD Group is further expanding its footprint in the new energy industry chain, particularly in the fields of battery manufacturing and recycling.

The establishment of Xixian New District BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. not only demonstrates BYD’s ongoing deep involvement in the new energy vehicle sector but also highlights its determination to promote the recycling of green energy. Recycling and second-life utilization of used power batteries is a highly regarded aspect of the current new energy vehicle industry, playing a crucial role in improving resource efficiency and reducing environmental pollution.

As a leading company in the new energy vehicle sector, BYD's move is expected to further drive technological innovation and development within the industry. In recent years, BYD has made extensive strides in the field of battery recycling:

  • In 2015, BYD partnered with GreeenMe to jointly create a circular system that includes "material recycling - battery regeneration - new energy vehicle manufacturing - power battery recycling."
  • In 2018, BYD signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tower Company to recycle and utilize new energy power batteries.
  • In 2020, BYD's Power Battery Shandong Second-life Recycling and Utilization Center held a signing ceremony in Zaozhuang National High-tech Zone, Shandong.
  • In April 2022, BYD established Taizhou Fudi Battery Co., Ltd., with a business scope that includes battery manufacturing and sales, new energy vehicle waste power battery recycling and second-life utilization, and new material technology research and development.
  • On April 30, 2024, a new company was established as a joint venture between BYD's wholly-owned subsidiary Fudi Battery Co., Ltd. and Huaihai Holding Group Co., Ltd. The company, Huaihai Fudi Sodium Battery Technology (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of 500 million RMB, will focus on battery manufacturing, sales, and the recycling and second-life utilization of used power batteries for new energy vehicles.
  • In September 2024, Australian Lithium Limited announced that it signed an exclusive battery recycling agreement with BYD. The agreement, initially set for three years with a possible two-year extension, designates Australian Lithium's wholly-owned subsidiary, Envirostream Australia, as the recycling partner for BYD’s lithium iron phosphate blade batteries.

As of now, BYD has established 51 power battery recycling service outlets nationwide, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

By building a complete battery industry chain, BYD not only enhances the competitiveness of its own products but also contributes to the sustainable development of the entire new energy vehicle industry.
